  • Shona Lyon Studio and Gallery 240 Mill Flat Road Riverhead, Auckland, 0793 New Zealand (map)

This course is an introduction to modelling and Sculpting in Clay. It begins with a overview of the process of Sculpting from Clay to Bronze. We discuss the use of armature wire, types of material available for modelling, care and wrapping of sculptures, materials and tools required, the basics of moulding and casting. We will use a variety of Clay mediums and talk about the pros and cons of each. The clays we will use include, Oil based, Water based and Air Dried.  You will be able to complete three basic Sculpts, each of approximate 150mm height each.

Please note, This is an experimental course (this is not ceramics - we do not use a kiln in these processes). The Air Dried Sculpt is the only one that will be able to be kept as is. If you wish to keep the other sculpts they will need to be moulded and then cast at a later stage (stage 3) . Weekend workshop This price includes $250 of materials.
